Casino del Sol is reopening next week with big changes in ...

Felipe Calderón Hinojosa wanted his government (2006-2012) to be remembered as the six-year term of security.

He bet on the persecution of organized crime, multiplied spending on federal police, sent the army to the streets and launched a strategy to make his actions convincing: the war against drug trafficking. The year prior to his inauguration, the country's homicide rate was 9.5 per 100,000 inhabitants.
The figure soon multiplied, leading the government to deny that there were collateral victims; those killed in the "war" were criminals or heroes - policemen and soldiers - who fought them. Fourteen years later, too many unknown victims have fallen in this battle. Estimates are close to 250,000 dead and 60,000 missing.
The beggining
The beginning of this dark and violent era can be dated December 11, 2006. On that day, then-President Felipe Calderón declared war on narco.
The intention was to arrest criminals who acted as lords and masters in various entities. He launched the Joint Operation Michoacán and sent 6,000 troops to stop the violence of the cartels. Since then, the beast of crime felt the prick in the back and has not stopped slapping its tail.
There have been fourteen in which it has been learned to measure homicides linked to this type of violence. Fourteen years in which the structure of the narco "faltered": new cells arose, new leaders appeared, others died or were killed. It has been fourteen years in which journalists have used self-censorship as their “survival” card. Fourteen years, 168 months and 5,250 days, of "blood and lead."
Heads rolled in Michoacán
The attack on the Sol y Sombra bar, which occurred on September 7, 2006, in Uruapan, Michoacán, it is said, was the germ of the war against drug trafficking that ex-president Felipe Calderón waged.
That day, a score of hooded individuals with AK-47 rifles dressed in Federal Investigation Agency uniforms opened fire without commiseration on the business.
The roar of the bullets sent dancers and customers to the ground. The fake agents entered, approached the dance floor and took out a bag with five heads. They left without a word, but left a narco-message. “The family does not kill for pay, it does not kill women and innocents. Only those who must die die. Sepal. This is divine justice ”, it read.
This crime attracted international attention like few before. It was also the first time that the name La Familia Michoacana spread to the rest of the country.
Four months after the start of the war against drug trafficking, the Army - responsible for the fight with criminal groups - suffered its first major ambush. It was in Carácuaro, in the Tierra Caliente region, near Guerrero and the State of Mexico.
On the night of May 1, 2007, an armed group attacked a military convoy with rifles and grenades during a patrol. Five soldiers, a colonel, a sergeant and three corporals were killed.
The Army turned in the area. Within days they arrested ten people, four of them women and minors. They seized long and short weapons and scored a victory.
In September, however, the minors reported rape and sexual abuse by the military. The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) issued a devastating report. Shortly after the war against drugs, elements of the Army were already facing charges of arbitrary detentions, torture, sexual abuse and rape. It would not be the last time.
That was just the beginning. On the day of the scream, Independence Day, criminals would throw hand grenades at a crowd in the center of Morelia, Michoacán in 2008. Almost a dozen dead and more than 100 injured would be the figures for the violent episode.
In 2009, Calderón captured dozens of Michoacán officials for alleged ties to drug traffickers. Most were released months later.
Ciudad Juarez, resist
Hell broke loose on this site.
When Felipe Calderón came to power, in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, two people were killed a day. In 2008, the average rose to five, and in 2009 there were already seven daily deaths.
It was enough just to look out to the city to see that many of the victims were young people captured by some criminal organization and killed in retaliation by a rival cartel. But also, it was easy to find a good number of lawyers, policemen, engineers, doctors, journalists turned into corpses and suspects.
In 2010, at least 60 student students were celebrating a party at number 1,310 Viñas del Portal street, when a group of hitmen arrived at the site aboard seven vans. Without a word, the hooded men shot at the teenagers. Sixteen died.
That same year, Luis Freddy Lala Pomavilla, 18, a bleeding and badly wounded Ecuadorian, arrived at an Army checkpoint on Highway 101 in Tamaulipas —on the border between Mexico and the United States— announcing: "they were all killed."
Before dying in a clinic, the man accompanied the soldiers to a ranch in San Fernando where the horror was found: 72 migrants lying on the ground and killed. The massacre also included another piece of information: the kidnapping of undocumented immigrants was a new item in the dirty business of the cartels.
As they explained, the drama began when members of Los Zetas forced him to work for them. By rejecting the proposal, they were killed one by one, with shots in the back and the head. The corpses passed like this for hours until Luis Freddy gave the warning.
The cruelty of the massacre and the calm with which it was carried out stunned the country.
A year later, 2011, the misfortune was called Casino Royal. The attack on the gambling business in Monterrey, Nuevo León, lasted only an instant, but it was enough to leave 52 dead and dismay an entire city.
With the crime, the people of Monterrey lived a day with a mixture of anger, indignation, sadness, and frustration due to the insecurity and the wave of violence that escalated in recent years.
The macabre events continued to shake Mexico. In May 2012, the mutilated bodies of 49 people were found on a road near the town of Cadereyta, in Nuevo Léon. The killers left only the torsos of the victims in plastic bags.
The massacre was added to the one that occurred in Jalisco, where 18 bodies were found, some of them beheaded.
By December of that year, the government changed, but not the legacy of the war.
In 2013, the epicenter of the pain moved to Tierra Caliente - a region that includes the states of Guerrero and Michoacán. There, the challenge of the self-defense groups escalated. The intention of this group of civilians up in arms was to rid the neighbors of the harassment of the Knights Templar cartel.
During the six-year terms of Enrique Peña Nieto and Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the declared war against drugs was no longer explicit, but in the facts disappearances and confrontations continued. From Ayotzinapa to Culiacanazo and the LeBarón massacre, tragic events linked to organized crime squeezed the entire country.

Hey y'all glad to see more casinos figuring out this covid mess, and some of you brave souls getting back to the tables! We had a few days and were in the area on road trip so decided to use a Tuesday comp room at Harrah's, Laughlin. Here's what I learned.
FIVE DOLLAR TABLES!
Aquarius - $5 ATS Gold Nugget -$5 Tropicana -$10
Aquarius seemed to have no problem keeping the table running all day.
Gold nugget opened the table at noon.
Harrah's, Tropicana, and Riverside were doing the 10$, and Trop opened the table at 6pm. Dealers in short supply, info from the pit manager. Heard this from multiple bosses across town.
If you are gonna stay in Laughlin, the Gold Nugget was desolate, perfect if you want to keep to yourself, but this was a weekday after all. Paul was a kind, hard working old-school dealer. Didn't get to tip him enough as my budget was already busted this trip. They have some decent video poker too, if you are into that. New members still get a free wheel spin for freeplay.
Aquarius felt pre-pandemic vibes. You could stand at any position if you were playing, and I got a good hour in ($60 buy in!!) and rolled my best there. I love longer tables. Hit 3 $1 hardways for the dealers, I was down to $10 and back to $60 three times, finally fizzled out. It is really hard to play with $60 but I made it happen. Almost hit the small but could not hit the snakes even if it was mating season! The table almost hit the ATS two more times but the dang snakes were hibernating. Insane.
Now, a word about pandemic procedures.
In an era of endless information, it seems that there is still no one agreed upon way to deal with covid-19 in public spaces. In general, I've found you just need to wash your hands and use sanitizers frequently, thick tight fitting cloth masks or a supply or surgical masks are a good thing, mandatory at one of my home casinos, Casino Del Sol. However, I got away with just my gaiter in Laughlin.
I've been going to casinos for a good two months in Southern Arizona now and the sanitizing seems to happen less on the slots and tables than before, so you have to just look out for yourself. I do enjoy a cigarette in a casino sometimes and it seems hard to get a drag in without some employee telling me to pull my mask up again. Apparently smoking and gambling gets security to boot you at some places, as one employee at Harrah's took it upon himself to watch me smoke and a third warning pulling my mask down to smoke would have called security. I put out my cig and called it a night.
Harrah's by far the most strict about everything Covid. With places to throw on the table marked by tape, 6 spots, and if you are with a significant other you can only stand directly behind, not touch any rails on the table. I Almost got booted for leaning over to see the throw.
At Aquarius it was everything like normal craps but spectators couldn't hang at the empty table, had to stay six feet back. Dealers didn't like the ambiguity but they still seem to be figuring things out there.
Sorry my rant went long but these are interesting times.
TLDR:
FIVE DOLLAR TABLES in Laughlin!
Aquarius - $5 ATS
Gold Nugget -$5 (table games opened at noon)
Tropicana -$10 (craps opened at 6pm weekday, seems to be a dealer shortage)
Covid-conditions: Aquarius: pre-pandemic standing at the table, masks (duh).
Gold Nugget: desolate, great dealers when they have them
Harrah's: half-capacity standing, no spectators in general, forget enjoying a smoke without getting threatened with the boot.
Use sanitizers and get out there everyone, but be safe (don't lick your dang hands and stay away from your face...) and keep rolling!!

I don't understand what's going on. I started up New Vegas five days ago and I'm currently doing Dead Money. I got to the part where I need to bring the followers to their spot to open the casino. I decided to take a break from the story to do collectibles. I decided to start with Salida del Sol. As soon as I walked through the door my game crashed mid loading screen. I thought it was a random crash so I just reloaded my save and tried again but it kept crashing. I tried running Steam in compatibility mode and that didn't work either. I uninstalled NV and that seemed to fix it but an hour later and it's doing it again. How do I fix this?

• October 23, 1979 - Harry (53) and Mollie Schlesinger (54) were shot and killed in Austin, Texas (US). Harry and his wife Mollie ran a liquor store and had been preparing to close their shop for the night when an assailant(s) robbed the store and then shot the couple dead. Police later informed the victims’ family that serial killers Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole confessed to the murders. However, some of the family doubted the validity of these claims due to some glaring inconsistencies in the case. The case is personal to one Reddit contributor Bamont because his grandmother was one of the victims of this horrible crime. What happened on that night? • December 1, 1981 - Virginia Freeman (40) was found dead beaten with stab wounds and a broken neck in College Station, Texas (US). Virginia was a real estate agent and mother, who was also actively involved in giving back to her community. Virginia was on her way to dinner when she received a call from work about a man wanting to see a house in a secluded area. The man had a southern accent and said he was carrying a large amount of cash. Hoping to make a sale, Virginia left alone to meet the potential client and was never seen alive. • March 14, 2015 - Cristie S. Codd (38) and Joseph "JT" Codd (45) disappeared from their home in Leicester, North Carolina (US). Cristie was a respected chef, who provided catering services to film crews. She was five months pregnant and had recently appeared in the 8th season of the reality show "Food Network Star." Her husband, JT, worked as a key grip in filmmaking. FYI, a key grip collaborates with the director of photography in productions and supervises all "grip (lighting and rigging) crews" (Wikipedia). The couple had hired their neighbor, Robert Jason Owens, as a contractor to do some work in their home. "Owens robbed, assaulted and threatened the couple with weapons before killing them." He would later admit to dismembering their bodies to conceal evidence (CBS News). Robert J. Owens is still a person of interest in the disappearance of Zebb Quinn (UPDATE:) Robert Owens has accepted a plea deal in the murders of JT Codd and Cristie, and...Will this provide any new information on Zebb?
  
• March 17 - July 11, 2016 - Maryvale (Phoenix) Serial Shooter - "an unidentified serial killer who has been linked to nine separate shootings resulting in seven deaths and two injuries across Phoenix, Arizona (US) in 2016, mainly in the Maryvale neighborhood" (Wikipedia). The shooter's attacks seem to be random, and he targets people who are walking outside or standing/sitting by their homes or cars. Who is the killer? • October 24, 1998 - Kristine Kupka (28) disappeared from Brooklyn, New York (US). Kristine was an honor student majoring in Philosophy at Baruch College in New York. Kristine was romantically linked to her former Chemistry instructor from school, Darshanand Persaud, who was recently married to another woman. Kristine was pregnant with his child, and Darshanand had not been supportive of her decision to keep the baby. • December 7th, 2001 - Janine Vaughan (31) disappeared from Bathurst, New South Wales (Australia). Janine worked as a store manager and had a large group of friends. On the day she vanished, Janine took a cab to meet up with some friends at two different bar and grills. At some point in the night, she lost her purse with her phone and wallet. Janine didn't want to end the party on her bad luck. • July 14, 2003 - Revell Jeeter (59) disappeared from McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania (US). Revell was a divorced father and an introvert, who preferred the company of his dog Bubba to most people. UNRESOLVED (& UNUSUAL) DEATHS

• June 25, 1968 - Robinson Family Murders (Good Hart murders) - This was the mass murder of a family who was shot and killed in their vacation cottage in Good Hart, Michigan (US). The home belonged to a prominent magazine publisher in Detroit, Richard and Shirley Robinson and their four children. In July of that year, a caretaker for the neighborhood had been alerted to an odor coming from that area. The neighbors had been told that the Robinsons would be out of town, so no one seemed alarmed and assumed the smell was a dead animal. However, inside the home, the caretaker found the decomposing bodies of the entire family. With the exception of their youngest daughter (7 years old) who had been beaten with a hammer alone, everyone else was bludgeoned and shot. The investigation into the deaths found that Richard's business was in trouble. An employee had been embezzling... What happened to the Robinson family?
  
• June 25, 1974 - Maria-Luise Artmeier (25) died after she lost control of her car and struck another vehicle in Munich, Bavaria (Germany). However, Maria was not killed due to the impact of the crash. Instead, the medical team found that she had been viciously stabbed shortly before the accident and had suffered a mortal wound to her heart. Police never found the murder weapon, and there were very few clues left at the scene.
