I am about to move to Sydney and have been offered a job as a cocktail waitress in a popular nightclub in Sydney. I know in the U.S. cocktail waitresses make most of their money in tips but I know that tipping in Aus isn't as common as it is in the U.S. so I am trying to see if it is a good idea. Thanks Cocktail waitresses are truly the unsung heroes of the weekend. Sure, there is praise for the DJ who crushed it, the Uber driver who pulled over when you needed to vomit and, of course, the bouncer who thought you looked good enough to get into the club in the first place. I don't think they can do that- even for a larger tip. I think it's 'protocol' so to speak for them to give whatever size they give everyone. Now I would bet if you are a high roller- really high- in a high limit room/table they might make exceptions but for regular people I think they are only allowed to give you what they can. A career in the restaurant industry can be very lucrative if the service you render to your customers is efficient and pleasant. But there are specific things you can do to earn better tips from your customers, whether they are repeat customers or first-time restaurant patrons. Good cocktail waitresses exude positive attitudes no matter how they feel inside. They keep a sharp eye out for their customers wants and needs, and they're not afraid to employ some sales tactics to boost the bar tab. This is a plea. Please be nice to your cocktail waitresses. Don’t kiss them, call them pet names, assume they can’t do simple math, make fun of their outfits, or touch any of their God-given parts without their permission. Especially (I’ll say it again): don’t kiss them. Oh, and for goodness’ sake, tip them. A successful cocktail waitress should recognize the value of a good memory by remembering regular customers, what they like to drink or how they prefer to be served. Discretion. Alcohol has the potential to make some customers lose their inhibitions. When this happens, a customer might make a proposition or act in a manner that's uncharacteristic.
